Resume writer/career counselor looking to trade services for holiday gifts for needy family's kids [10 Dec 2008|07:11pm]

Hi - I'm Cristina and this is a post looking for some holiday gift help for a very good friend of mine who's a disabled, widowed single Mom with children and nieces/nephews to shop for this Christmas.

I understand everyone's going through tough times this season and we're not looking for handouts, just some gently used/still good items someone would like to regift or recycle. I also do career and resume and personal marketing counseling professionally (Onramps Resume Services, I will send more info and a link to my advertising if you would like, and will trade services for holiday gifts.) I have many satisfied customers and can provide references upon request.

My friend's family lives in San Rafael and I'm in Alameda County living with family while I finish a master's degree. I do help this family as much as possible, just looking for help as tuition's due soon :)

I'll give the family's address out to those who email and are interested in helping. Here's a guide to what my friend and her kids might like:

For Angelo – age 16 (boy teen)… easy to please. Anything is ok. He wears size large shirts.

For Mark - age 16 (boy/teen)… needs shoes/tennis shoes – size 11 ½ men’s/size XXL shirts, hooded sweatshirts (preferably long sleeves)/loves politics/very immature and still really loves neat toys for bigger kids, or a ping pong table and/or paddles.

For Morgan - age 15 (girl/teen)… very sweet girl. Loves necklaces/needs shoes/tennis shoes – size 8 ½ women’s - badly. Also would appreciate hooded sweatshirts/stuffed animals/ a digital camera.

For Lola – age 6 (girl)… loves frilly girly neat stuff.

For Keith – age 5 (boy)… honestly asked for laptop with a huge smile on his face, wanted to get a laugh out of everyone. We told him Santa didn’t make any this year. :) Anything is okay.

Mother – disabled, widow, 40’s, xl or size 16/18, long shirts or sweaters, sweat pants and sweat shirts, and in dire need of PJ’s!!!

Thank you very much and enjoy a beautiful holiday season. Link to lovely video of Stevie Nicks singing Silent Night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFxxQnhT5XQ

Looking for the Christmas Fairy :) [26 Nov 2007|11:48am]

Hi, I'm Cristina, and I have a very good friend who is disabled and still working to get back on her feet after her husband's death last year.

She has a huge heart and sends me and others inspirational quotes every day to cheer us up, even though sometimes she is so sick she can hardly function. She and I have been searching for part-time work for her from home, and she is making real progress to recover and deal with some things in her life.

This year, though, she needs a little help with Christmas presents for her two young children. Both children are talented artists and love to draw, sing, and perform in community theater musicals. She has a thirteen year old daughter and a fourteen year old son.

Also, there are a few other children (her niece and nephew and some family friends' children) who also won't get much for Christmas this year:

Jenner (JR) 14 years old
Anthony 15 years old
Lexi 4 years old
Kyle 3 years old

The family lives in Northern California - and I'd like to help my friend and her mother receive something as well as the children. I'll be sending them gifts myself but would like to invite people here to help also if they so choose. Perhaps people can select one or two family members and sign up to get them gifts? People in payingforward did that last year and we're all very grateful to them. People can get creative and make handmade gifts or something else that doesn't cost too much if they like - last year I put together handmade coloring books for the youngest children from pages I printed out online.

Please comment if you are interested and leave an email address and I'll give you the family's contact info. Thank you very much and have a beautiful holiday!

Holiday elves needed! [14 Dec 2006|12:29pm]

I am looking for a Secret Santa for my disabled friend's two children, niece, nephew, and a young family friend. The family has fallen on hard times this year after she lost her husband and became even more sick than she was before. Please let me know if anyone here would be interested in helping, or could direct us towards an organization that could accept late registration and help provide some gifts. I'll provide my friend's address upon request.

Thanks very much for your time and attention, here are a few thoughts from my friend about what the children might like:

Boy, age 13, friend's son. [Size large men’s shirt, 101/2 – 11 men’s shoe, size 34, 30 men’s pants]. He probably would prefer to get some kind of drawing stuff or some kind of toy for a teenager. He loves Bart Simpson (no beer stuff though). He also likes to light candles in my Mom’s room for her. He might enjoy a few white or turquoise neat candles. He loves to draw, he loves the computer. He’d like learning or education computer software or something. He has a great sense of humor and loves to laugh and make people laugh too. Both my son and daughter love to act.

Girl, age 12, friend's daughter. [Size medium tops, 81/2 – 9 women’s shoe, size 6 women’s pants]... My daughter loves that bunny you see on clothing. The bunny that says those cute little sayings, you know. She also loves Sparkly clothes and says that’s all she wants this year (sparkly clothes). She is mature for her age and extremely intelligent. She is also very wholesome and dresses conservatively.

Boy, age 15, friend of my friend's son. He probably would prefer to get some kind of toy for a teenager. He loves cartoons and he used to like bugs.

Girl, age 4, friend's niece. This is my niece, my younger sister’s little girl. She is extremely mature for her age]... She loves make up and dressing up. She loves to look beautiful. She hates naptime. She has a very short attention span, even for her age. She loves Dora the Explorer and some of the other popular cartoons out for little kids. She is a little genius.

Boy, Age 3, friend's nephew. He is an adorable little boy, an only child. His Mother is a 2nd grade teacher.

I know I just asked this technically two posts ago, but its been over a month and a half....

But has anyone got any books they're willing to part with? I don't really read romance, unless you count Anita Blake books as them. Please reply!!!

My favorite books or series of books are

Sweep- by Cate Tiernan

The Vampire Chronicles- Anne Rice

and I'm looking for more specific books like

The Stranger

The Fountainhead

and I could go on and on.

Hey Kids! Comics! [10 Dec 2005|11:41am]

Crossposted to read_n_write.

There's a comic book dealer I met at one of the New Hampshire comic shows who had a promotion called the "Wicked Monster Comic Book Club". Basically if you sign up, you get free comics when you visit his table at a show. He uses the promotion as a way to get new readers interested in comics, so he asks people to pass the freebies on once they are done reading them.

So... If anyone wants a free comic, email me at rsilva444 at yahoo dot com with your mailing address and I will send the comic(s) out to you along with a zine or minicomic from my company, Dandelion Studios. First come, first served. I only have one copy of each book. Oh, and in the spirit of the giveaway, kindly pass these along when you're done with them.

Here are reviews of the comics I have available.

Request [05 Sep 2005|12:10pm]

Ok, here is my request. The holidays are quickly approaching us and I want to make sure that every little girl and boy have a mery Christmas. I have decided to get enough presents to take the local hospitals so that kids who have to spend their holidays in the hospital will have a nice Christmas anyways.
My mom is handmaking stockings which we plan on filling with little surprises, I would like to collect a childs book for each child and a toy or stuffed animal.
If anyone would like to help please let me know, I know the kids would appreciate it very much but I can't do it all on my own. I've been trying to collect things for months but now I'm just finacially stuck and am not able to get anymore.

[22 Aug 2005|11:25pm]

Ok, I've been a long time member of giving and have mostly sent out books or other things I have had and have enjoyed doing so. Now I am in some desperate need of help.

I am a struggling college student, I work full time while I go to school and I maintain a 3.7 gpa. The problem is that I have a great deal of trouble paying for school so I dont get hardly any money to save up or luxuries. The stories about pbj and raman are almost cliche now but its my day to day life. Not trying to have a sob story or anything, but the computer I am on and use to do my word processing is running windows 95 and is literally ten years old. I have found a way to get a free computer, and if done right is free to everyone. So if anyone is interested in helping out a college kid that is trying his best please feel free to help me out. And thank you in advance

As an incentive, I will personally send you a check for 5$ once your referal using my code
has been logged into the account counting towards me getting a free computer. It will only take a
little bit of your time, and costs you nothing because you can do it for free. It takes about 15
days for everything to clear, if sooner I will let you know by email and I will send you your check.
Yes I am fairly desperate, and Im hoping that a few of you can help me out with this. It would be a
great boon to me.

Here is how it is all done, and its really simple. Again, you have to pay nothing since you cancel it and I will send you 15 bucks for your time in setting all this up.

1. Sign up by clicking the link below. You will need to verify the email so make sure it's valid.

2. Just complete one of the offers. Real Rhapsody is the best and its easy to cancel

3. After you get credit to your account, call the 1800 or send an email and tell them you want to cancel. It takes 2 mintues to cancel using the 1800 number. But please wait until I have confirmed that I have gotten credit for you doing the offer and using my link that I am providing below.

Ok, if anyone has any questions feel free to email me at Joseph.turco@gmail.com
Thank you all again.

i am not a huge metallica fan so i would like to pass it along. all i ask is that you help with shipping, it should be about $2.50. i have a paypal account.

Sin City movie poster. [17 Aug 2005|03:01pm]

Some how I acquired a Sin City movie poster that I don't really want. I think I took it with the belief that one of my friends might want it, but no one really has a use for it. If any of you are Frank Miller fans and would like a free Sin City poster (in excellent condition, I haven't even un-rolled it, except just to see what the picture looked like), then feel free to ask. I'm not even sure how much shipping is, I most likely can cover that.

If you want to see a picture of it first, I can do that for you.

Cross-posted to a few places.

Hey kids! Comics! [11 May 2005|11:25am]

Last Saturday was Free Comic Book Day, and as with last year, I went to a bunch of different comic stores to get freebies. I'll also throw in a copy of one of the minicomics that my wife and have put together through our company, Dandelion Studios.

Here are the comics I have available (these are all special promotional Free Comic Book Day editions; some are reprints and some contain new material):

Marvel Adventures (Marvel Comics)
Alternative Comics Presents (Alternative Comics)
Comic Festival (promo for the Toronto Comics Arts Festival)
Flight (Image Comics)
Bongo Comics (Simpsons)
Betty & Veronica (Archie Comics)
Ronin Hood of the Samurai (Beckett Comics)
The Batman Strikes (DC Comics)
GI Joe/Darkstalkers (DDP/UDON)
Star Wars (Dark Horse Comics)
Bone Sharps, Cowboys, and Thunder Lizards (G.T. Labs)

I have one copy of each, except for Batman, which I have three extra copies of. If you'd like any, email me with your address at rsilva444@yahoo.com.
